Nai Xiang Oolong - Milk Oolong Tea

Nai Xiang Oolong, also known as Milk Oolong Tea, is a smooth and aromatic loose leaf Oolong made from carefully selected Nai Xiang Oolong tea leaves. This distinctive tea is known for its creamy, milk-like aroma, silky texture and naturally comforting character.

Its characteristic creamy profile develops naturally from the tea leaves and the way they are processed, rather than from added milk or flavouring. After harvesting, the fresh leaves are carefully withered to reduce moisture, then gently tumbled or bruised to encourage controlled oxidation. The leaves are allowed to partially oxidise, developing their naturally occurring aromatic compounds and bringing out the soft creamy, buttery and floral notes associated with this style of Oolong.

Once the desired level of oxidation has been reached, the leaves are heated to stop the process, then carefully rolled into their characteristic curled shape and dried. This combination of controlled oxidation, heating and rolling helps create the tea’s smooth mouthfeel, layered aroma and delicate natural sweetness while preserving the distinctive character of the leaves.

The cup is soft, creamy and elegant, with sweet notes reminiscent of milk and caramel, balanced by a gentle floral finish. Because the creamy character occurs naturally, it is more delicate and subtle than a flavoured Milky Cream Oolong. As the curled leaves unfurl during brewing, they release a smooth, layered infusion that can be enjoyed across multiple steeps.

How to brew it?

1. Suitable for brewing in a Gaiwan, flask or an earthenware teapot.

2. Firstly warm the teaware by rinsing it with hot water.

3. Put 5-7 grams of tea leaves per 100-120 ml of water.

4. Pour boiling water 100 degrees over the leaves and wait for 15-20 seconds.

5. The brew from the first steep should be poured out as it is designed to rinse the leaves and reduce astringency.

6. The second steep can be made after a few seconds to around 20 seconds, depending on one's taste. (The shorter the brewing time, the more steeps the tea can endure). This tea can be brewed up to 7-10 times.
